Buffaloes…………..(0)…. 2
Black Rhinos……..(1)…. 2

BLACK Rhinos yesterday fought hard to force a stalemate when they played fellow uniformed forces, Buffaloes, in a Castle Larger Premier Soccer League match played at Sakubva Stadium.

Both teams started off on a good note by exchanging some raids in the first half, but it was Black Rhinos who scored first from a penalty spot in the 41st minute through their captain Wilson Chakanyuka after the home side’s central defender Prosper Matizanadzo handled in the box.

Harare-based referee Norman Matemera did not hesitate to point to the penalty spot and Chakanyuka fired home the first goal of the match.

The home team responded in the 47th minute through a beauty from captain Jacob Muzokomba who exhibited some individual brilliance when he unleashed a powerful shot from the left side giving Rhinos goalkeeper Samuel Mafukidze no chance.

Buffaloes went on a cruise drive thereafter and continued to pile pressure on Rhinos.

They nearly got another one in the 54th minute, but Muzokomba’s header went just a few inches over the bar after some fine build-up. The home side was finally rewarded in the 58th minute when Jeffrey Takunda blasted another powerful shot that he collected from outside the box when Black Rhinos’ defenders battled to clear a Buffaloes’ attack from a corner-kick.

However, Buffaloes’ lead did not last for long as the exciting Black Rhinos Stephen Matsangaise shuffled past the porous home side defence on the left side and dribbled his way into the box before feeding the well-placed Fredrick Marowa who managed to beat Buffaloes’ goalkeeper Itayi Chiwara.

For Luke Masomere the match was balanced though he felt his charges had the upper hand and deserved to win.

“It’s not obvious that you will always get maximum points when playing at home.

“We are in the last hurdle and everyone is very cautious, but I think we should have won the match because we created more chances,” the Buffaloes’ coach said.
