A BULAWAYO man, who is believed to be mentally disturbed, was on Friday remanded in custody for threatening to spear his father to death.

Tinashe Makuwe (19) of Old Lobengula appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso and was remanded to September 11. According to a medical report produced in court, Makuwe was said to be mentally disturbed.

The court heard that on August 26 at around 5pm, Makuwe ate all the cooked relish and then locked himself in his father Kumbirai Makuwe’s bedroom and fastened it with nails.

The elder Makuwe phoned his daughter from Nketa to come and help and when she arrived, he bolted out.

The court heard that the elder Makuwe and his wife then accompanied their daughter to catch a kombi back to her place and when they returned, they found that he had locked himself in their bedroom again.

He stood by the window and allegedly threatened to kill them with the spear.

His father called the police who gained entry through the window and arrested the younger Makuwe.
