The boy from Majoni village under Chief Mafala appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Peter Madiba facing charges of malicious damage to property.

The State alleged that on March 4 at around 6pm, the juvenile was herding cattle in a bushy area along the Mimosa-Dadaya Road when a VW Mimosa bus drove past with an unspecified number of passengers.

The boy is alleged to have thrown a big stone at the bus before using a catapult to smash the driver’s window and part of the windscreen. He fled when the bus stopped, but was spotted by another herd boy who disclosed the juvenile’s identity to the bus crew.

The matter was reported to the police and the juvenile was arrested.

In his defence, the boy told the court that he had seen a big snake on the bus and attacked it as he feared that it would harm either the bus’ passengers or the livestock he was herding.
