A CENTRAL Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative was yesterday brought before to the Victoria Falls Magistrates’ Court by his wife on allegations of brutally assaulting her and accusing her of prostitution and illiteracy.
Sithabile Mhlanga (23) yesterday applied for a protection order against her husband Zimiso Maseko (27) of Mkhosana high-density suburb. In her evidence, Mhlanga said Maseko always assaulted her and labelled her a prostitute and being uneducated.
“My husband abuses me by beating me, especially when he is drunk. He comes home late at midnight and wakes me up to cause trouble. He always says I am a prostitute without specific reasons. I wish the court to help me on this because I have suffered enough.
He beats me in front of people and my child and I feel emotionally abused and I now fear for my life,” she said.
“He threatens that even if I go to the police, he is well known by them since he works in the president’s office so I will not win the case. He always brags about his degree accusing me of being uneducated,” Mhlanga added.
However, Maseko refuted her claims saying he was baffled why she was making such allegations against him.
“I don’t know why she is saying this. I’ve been to university in Harare. At some point a woman told me that my wife had an affair. We then fought and she beat me. At night she wakes me up and says beat me up, but sometimes I overpower her. We usually fight over money; she overspends. I gave her money for groceries and she disappeared for 10 days. I give her money for school, but she always says she does not want to learn,” said Maseko.
After listening to the couple’s arguments, Victoria Falls resident magistrate Sharon Rosemani declined to grant a protection order and
instead advised them to seek counselling.
