The man and his neighbour — a woman who had been allocated land at Village 4 in Lorchard, Mbembesi — had a dispute over the land, leading to the fierce assault.

This came to light when the man — Edican Dube (48) of 131 Village 4 Lorchard — appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sheunesu Matova during a court circuit at Mbembesi on Wednesday last week charged with the assault of Daisy Moyo (52) of 159 Village 4 Lorchard.

Dube denied the charge and the magistrate remanded him out of custody to October 29 for continuation of trial. The court heard that on October 10 this year at 11am at the Lorchard new stands, Dube assaulted Moyo after a misunderstanding arose over their newly-allocated stands.

Dube allegedly pounced on Moyo with open hands before taking a knobkerrie and striking her several times all over the body. Moyo sustained bruises and she reported the matter to the police, leading to Dube’s arrest.
