The lecturer, Andrew Sibanda (61) of Ntabazinduna Flats in Bulawayo, denied the criminal insult and assault charges when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa last week.

The magistrate remanded him out of custody to today for continuation of trial.

The prosecutor, Kudakwashe Jaravaza, told the court that on October 13 this year at 11:45am the complainant, Debra Simangaliso Maphosa (34) of Nketa in Bulawayo and two unnamed colleagues, went to the accounts office at the institution, questioning Sibanda on the meaning of a cartoon in the staff room.

However, this seemed to infuriate Sibanda, who allegedly shouted at them in Ndebele, insulting them and calling them dogs.

He further insulted them with unprintable words before pushing Maphosa’s buttocks and ordered them out of his sight.

He allegedly further kicked her on her buttocks leading to Maphosa sustaining bruises. A report was made to the police, leading to Sibanda’s arrest.
