A ZANU PF legislator has suggested that President Robert Mugabe be declared a life president, saying the nonagenarian should be the party’s candidate even as far ahead as the 2023 elections.
Gokwe-Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena said he would die with Mugabe and that the president should rule until he was tired.
“We will die with president Mugabe. The president will rule and rule until he says he is tired,” he declared.
“He is what we call our life president. He will rule until he says no, we will vote for him in 2018, we will vote for him in 2023. You can’t tell us to revolt against our president; that will never happen here in Nembudziya.”
Wadyajena also hit out at besieged Vice-President Joice Mujuru saying she did not have the mettle to rule the country.
“The VP was fingered in corruption issues. How can we have a leader like that?” he asked.
“Dr (Grace) Mugabe wasn’t lying when she said the party (MDC) was formed in a Zanu PF official’s house.”
Grace has accused Mujuru of plotting to unseat Mugabe at the party’s December congress, leading a chorus of calls for the vice-president’s resignation.
