Innocent Chilumba slowed his car down at a roadblock along Mvuma-Gweru Road, but when he showed signs of not stopping, Constable Kizito Mahachi got into the vehicle before Chilumba sped off.
Chilumba was, however, stopped at another roadblock near Sino Cement turn off, where he was arrested.
Gweru magistrate Judith Taruvinga remanded Chilumba in custody to next Tuesday when he is expected to answer to kidnapping charges.
The court heard that on October 3, Chilumba was driving a Toyota Granvia vehicle along the Mvuma-Gweru Road without a valid driver’s licence.
He was stopped at a roadblock but failed to comply, leading to Constable Mahachi getting into the accused’s car before he sped off with the complainant.
Chilumba was, however, stopped at another roadblock near Sino tollgate, where he was escorted back to Lalapanzi by Constable Mahachi.
