For the second time this year, the police side Black Boots failed to make it to Premier Soccer League (PSL) and ceding the championship to Tsholotsho FC.

However, Black Boots vice-chairman Sidney Madzvimbo said they were grateful to the sponsor of the LG Foods, Larrence Gwati, for coming up with the tournament and said wining it would be an early Christmas gift for his players.

“It’s back to the drawing back as far as the championship is concerned,” he said.

“We are still within our targets as we set a five-year time-frame for the PSL. We are still a young club. The league has no sponsor and the boys will get something from this tournament, which is good.

“We have much respect for the tournament and have fielded a strong team from the first round. ZPC are a very strong side and our matches against them have not been easy. You can underestimate them at your own peril.”

Black Boots beat BCC Golden Stars, who have been promoted to Division One, 1-0 in the first round at Raylton Sports Club.

They beat Ntabazinduna Prison 1-0 in the quarter-final and meet ZPC Kariba tomorrow in the semi-final.

ZPC Hwange beat Amagagasi 3-0 in the first round and trounced Ajax Hotspurs by the same scoreline in the quarter-final.

Hwange Juniors beat Talen Vision in the first round at Raylton before edging Tsholotsho FC 12-11 in a penalty shoot-out in the quarter-finals.

Their opponents Plumtree Chiefs beat LG Vultures 4-0 in the first round, and beat Trumus of Victoria Falls in the quarter-finals.

Winners of the tournament will walk away with $2 000 with the losing finalists pocketing $1 500.

Losing semi-finalists will get $750 each with the player of the tournament, goalkeeper of the tournament and the top goalscorer each getting $200 each.

The tournament is sponsored to the tune of $12 000.
