HIGHLANDERS is set to unveil former winger Netsai “Super” Moyo as the new club manager with Mandla Mpofu assistant to head coach Bongani Mafu, while Peter Nkomo will be retained as goalkeepers’ coach, sources have revealed.

Moyo takes over from another former player Willard Mashinkila-Khumalo while Mpofu, associate coach at city neighbours Bantu Rovers, replaces Mark Mathe, who was caretaker coach after the departure of Zambian Kelvin Kaindu. Nkomo, another former player, is the only one who retained his job from last year’s technical department.
A reliable source at the Bulawayo giants confirmed the three and said they would be unveiled soon.
“Super Netsai is the new manager ahead of Partson Ndabambi and Maphepha (Ernest Sibanda) while Mandla (Mpofu) is the assistant coach,” the source said.
“Dazzy (Kapenya) has lost out. Oxo (Peter) Nkomo has been retained as the goalkeepers’ coach. The three will be announced soon.”
When Mafu was unveiled last Tuesday, Highlanders chairman Peter Dube said they would be announcing the backroom staff in the first week of January.
Mafu reportedly identified his assistants, but the executive committee said they had the sole prerogative to make the appointments.

It appears Moyo enjoys support of former Highlanders players while sources said the Highlanders board refused to endorse Maphepha. Ndabambi was ruled out as an outsider.
Super Netsai, as he was popularly known in his heydays, is currently involved in Grassroots Soccer, a non-governmental organisation that uses the power of football to raise awareness on HIV and Aids-related issues.
He joined Highlanders from the juniors ranks. He played for Shu-Shine and Red Seal as well.
Moyo played alongside Highlanders greats Madinda Ndlovu, Mashinkila-Khumalo, Alexander Maseko, Douglas “British” Mloyi, Sidney Zimunya, Rahman Gumbo, the late Titus Majola, Mercedes Sibanda and Thuthani Moyo.
He won the Natbrew Castle Cup, Bat Rosebowl, Chibuku Trophy, among other trophies, with Highlanders in the 1980s.
His playing career at the Bulawayo giants stretched from 1982 to 1995.
