POTE Holdings donated 18 bicycles and three motorbikes to Zvishavane, Mberengwa and Chivi police stations recently.

OWN CORRESPONDENT Pote Holdings operates Pote Hill Lodge, a chain of supermarkets and wholesale businesses in Zvishavane, Mberengwa and Chivi in Masvingo.

Speaking to Southern Eye in an interview, Pote Holdings general manager Tamsoni Mthombeni said they had realised that police have to be rewarded for their duties in the district.

“As Pote Holdings, we realised that the police have to be recognised and be capacitated for their work in communities,” he said.

“We hope that they can fully perform their duties in order to curb crimes in the districts.”

Mthombeni said as victims of crime in the past, they had to assist the police with whatever they had.

“As a company, we are also affected by crimes such as break-ins and not anyone wishes to be victims of such kind of crimes,” he said. Mthombeni said the donations were part of their social responsibility as a company.

“We realise that for us to fulfil our social responsibility programme, we have to interact with the police,” he said.

“One bicycle can serve the community and help the police attend a crime scene.”

Mthombeni said the donations were the beginning of more community programmes.

“This is a programme that we have just started and there are many other events to follow,” he said.

Pote Holdings, he said, always ploughs back to the community which supports its businesses.

The company donates food hampers to Jairos Jiri in Zvishavane every month and has drilled boreholes for Zvishavane residents to alleviate water shortages in the asbestos mining town.
