Harare City Council contracted Easy Park to sell parking tickets using a computerised system.
The current system has been blighted by corruption as parking tickets assistants stand accused of not remitting all the money generated to the city treasury.
Councillor Moses Marecha condemned council’s corrupt tendencies saying outsourcing the service would deal with the issue.
“This contract will improve accountability of revenue from parking tickets and plug corruption that may be currently happening,” said Marecha.
However, Marecha dismissed rumours that the outsourcing of the service was the beginning of retrenchments.
“We are not retrenching, but we are just phasing out (parking) ticket assistants, who will be absorbed into other departments in the council,” Marecha emphasised.
