Andrew Chimboza has been sentenced to 18 years in jail for the brutal murder of Mbuyiselo Michael Manona.

Zimbabwean national Chimboza killed Manona in Gugulethu last year and later c his body and ate parts of his heart.

Judge Ashley Binns-Ward said the brutality of the assault was a factor in determining the sentence.

“The extreme brutality of the assault and absence of remorse from the accused for what he has done outweigh the mitigating factors in his personal circumstances and relatively clean record.”

Chimboza, 35, was ordered to Valkenberg psychiatric hospital for observation earlier this year. Psychiatrists said it was not possible to determine whether he was a danger to others.

Family members of the deceased said they were just happy that he whole ordeal was over.
