Mbuyazwe told Southern Eye over the weekend that he quit to pave way for younger people.

“At my age I cannot be seen squabbling for positions with young people and I have decided to leave politics,” said Mbuyazwe.

“We need young blood to take our communities and country forward. I no longer have that energy which kept me going in the past. If I continue in politics will hinder progress for my community and country.”

He added: “Everyone knows that young people are energetic and can go miles for the sake of development of our society and country.

“I played my part and someone should take over from where I left. It’s been a challenging and hard journey, but as a man I have to make this decision for the sake of progress.”

Of late President Robert Mugabe’s warring Zanu PF has become heavily divided with young people said to be pushing to take over leadership of the party.
