SEVEN people died while five others were seriously injured in a head-on collision involving a Honda Fit and a Mazda pick-up truck that occurred along the Gweru-Kwekwe Highway yesterday morning.

Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said six people died on the spot while the other died upon admission at Kwekwe Hospital where five injured passengers were taken for treatment.
“Two of the five injured passengers were transferred to Parirenyatwa Hospital while the other three are still admitted at Kwekwe hospital,” he said.
Nyathi said preliminary investigations indicated that the driver of the Gweru-bound Honda Fit failed to negotiate a curve and encroached into the right lane, resulting in the head-on collision at the 235km peg near Kwekwe River.
The Honda fit had two occupants while the pick-up truck was carrying 11 private security guards employed by Unki Mine in Shurugwi. Both drivers died on the spot.
The names of the victims were withheld as their next of kin are yet to be informed.
