This was heard by Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa on Thursday when the suspect, Prosper Ncube (22), appeared in court facing a murder charge.

Ncube was not asked to plead to the charge and was remanded in custody to August 20.

Prosecutor Dumisani Ndlovu told the court that on August 3, Ncube went to his friend Collin Ndlovu’s place where they picked up a heated argument while watching a movie.

It is alleged that the two quarrelled over the language, which was being used by the characters in that movie with Ndlovu saying they were talking in Zulu while Ncube said they were using Xhosa.

The argument degenerated into a fist fight and in the ensuing melee, Ncube allegedly picked a brick and struck Ndlovu on the head, killing him on the spot.

The matter was reported to police, leading to Ncube’s arrest.
