Thabani Moyo (33) of Makokoba and Jabulani Ndlovu (33), were brought to court yesterday on a murder charge after they were positively identified from the video footage.

Magistrate Charity Maphosa did not ask them to plead to the murder of Jabulani Madolo (48) and instead remanded them in custody to today. Their alleged accomplice, Njabulo Ndlovu is reportedly still at large.

The court heard that on July 3 at 3:00am the trio allegedly stormed Buchu Wholesalers in Thorngrove with the intention of stealing meat.

They allegedly cut the perimeter fence to gain entry into the premises and Njabulo broke into the workshop through an open space on the roof before stealing an iron rod and a hammer.

They allegedly used the tools to force open the refrigerated containers filled with meat but Madolo spotted them and attempted to raise alarm.

Njabulo allegedly struck him with an iron rod and robbed him of $250, which was in his pocket while Jabulani took away his two mobile phones.

After the attack, the suspects fled the scene.

Madolo later died on the spot and a post-mortem report indicated that his death was caused by severe cerebral injuries sustained during the attack.
