An 18-year-old housemaid in Ivene suburb, Gweru, has appeared before the courts facing charges of indecent assault. Miriam Mazhakata allegedly fondled a six-year-old boy’s private parts and put her legs on the juvenile’s shoulders.

But Mazhakata denied the charges, saying they were trumped up by the boy’s mother who had failed to pay her wages when she told her she was no longer interested in working for her.
She alleged that the boy was the one who was “naughty” and had a habit of touching her body and saying obscene words.
Mazhakata alleged that when touching her, the juvenile would call her his girlfriend. She said she usually beat the boy for his wayward behaviour, but alleged he would change the story when asked by his mother why he misbehaved.
Gweru magistrate, Tayengwa Chibanda said trial would continue today.
Prosecutors told the court that on August 14 this year in Ivene suburb, Mazhakata was seated on a sofa when she touched the juvenile’s private parts.

Further allegations are that the accused placed her legs on the boy’s shoulders, fondling his private parts in the process.
The juvenile told his mother what had happened and a report was made to the police, leading to Mazhakata’s arrest.
