Magistrate Judith Taruvinga remanded him in custody to December 24.

Sibanda of Southdowns suburb allegedly stabbed his mother, Barbra Sibanda, on December 3 this year and later took her car on a joy ride to Harare. Along the way, he allegedly knocked down a pedestrian in Norton, the court heard.

Prosecuting, Daniel Tafuma told the court that on December 3 this year, Sibanda stabbed his mother to death after they allegedly quarrelled over an undisclosed matter.

The matter came to light last Saturday when the deceased’s neighbour became inquisitive over her whereabouts and immediately alerted the police. When the police broke into the house, they found the woman lying dead in a pool of blood.

Police launched a manhunt for the suspect and that is when they were tipped that Sibanda had been spotted in Mbare.
