Tineyi Magedhe of Nyoka village under Chief Chiwundura asked for sexual favours from Emily Dukwende. But when Dukwende turned down his advances, Magedhe became infuriated and hit the now deceased with a hoe handle before raping and subsequently killing her.

In passing sentence, High Court judge, Justice Martin Makonese sitting at the Gweru circuit said he considered a medical report by a psychiatrist, which showed Magedhe was mentally ill at the time of committing the crime before acquitting him on grounds of insanity.

Magedhe will be confined to Mlondolozi mental institution where he will receive treatment.

Prosecutor, Tafadzwa Mpariwa told the court that Magedhe and Dukwende were both employed as domestic workers by one Dani William Nyoka in Chiwundura.

On February 13, 2013, the two were left alone at home by their employer. On the day in question Magedhe was feeding chickens while deceased was cleaning the house from outside.

Magedhe proceeded to where Dukwende was working and demanded to have sex with her.

When Dukwende refused the sex demands, Magedhe became angry and moved away from the house and came back armed with a hoe handle.

He then struck the deceased on the back of her head and she fell down and became unconscious.

Magedhe dragged his work colleague inside the house where he raped her before striking her three times with the hoe handle on the head killing her instantly. A report was later made to the police leading to Magedhe’s arrest.
