A 55-YEAR-OLD man from Hope Fountain on the outskirts of Bulawayo has landed himself in trouble after he allegedly lured a 13-year-old girl with some confectionery and $3 before he sexually abused her on several occasions.

This was heard by Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa last Thursday when Japhet Moyo appeared before her charged with having sexual intercourse with a minor. He denied the charge
The girl told the court that she never consented to the sex, but the man forced her.
The magistrate remanded the case to February 22, where a decision to transfer the matter to a regional court would be made.
Prosecutor Kudakwashe Jaravaza told the court that sometime in October 2015 at a bushy area near the village, Moyo proposed love to the girl and she agreed. Later on, Moyo allegedly sexually abused her on several occasions after enticing her with confectionery.
The court heard, Moyo would tell the girl not to tell anyone about their several sexual encounters. It is the State case that one day, the girl’s grandmother saw her grandchildren eating corn snacks and asked where they had got them from.

The children told her that they were given by the girl. The grandmother then beat up the girl when she saw her with many packets of corn snacks until she disclosed that Moyo gave them to her after she had sexual intercourse with him.
A report was made to the police, leading to Moyo’s arrest.
