Zifa is struggling to pay the women’s senior national football team despite the Mighty Warriors’ success on the field, which includes qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

To add to that success, the team is one step short of making it to the women’s continental championships, facing Zambia in the last hurdle, after accounting for Tanzania.
Zimbabwe held on to a 1-1 draw against Tanzania at home on Sunday, having won the first leg 2-1 away, to progress to the final qualifying stage.
But the team have nothing to show for all that, with Zifa struggling to pay both the winning bonuses and allowances.
For the two qualifiers against Cameroon in the Olympics and Tanzania in the African Women’s Championships, the ladies are owed between $2 000 and $3 000 each.
They will be going back into camp on Sunday to prepare for their match against Zambia on the promise that the football mother body was working flat out to address the situation.
Some of the players told NewsDay Sport yesterday that they had been paid $100 each when they went into camp for the Tanzania qualifiers and they only got $50 each from Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa after the second leg on Sunday.

They said that most of the players were owed from previous matches, but they had given up any hope of recovering their dues and were focusing on the Cameroon and Tanzania qualifiers.
“We have not been paid, all we have received have been promises, but hopefully they are working on something as per their promise,” one player said.
They owe us a lot of money, but some of it we are no longer pursuing. If only they could pay us for the Cameroon and Tanzania qualifiers, that would motivate us.”
