TEMBA Tagwireyi, popularly known as Tembalami, is an inspirational gospel musician who says he was called to minister through music.
The musician says his Inspired Worship Concert slated for August 9 at the Celebration Centre in Harare is about being in the presence of God, and fans can expect to dance, praise and worship the Lord.
In close to two decades, Tembalami has built a rich musical legacy through studio albums and live recordings. His music combines worship, storytelling and contemporary sound. Significantly, albums such as Brighter Day, The Fight and Church on the Street showcase his evolution, while songs like Tomurumbidza, Hande, Victory and Moyo Wangu reveal why he remains one of Zimbabwe’s most beloved gospel voices.
Tembelani’s favourite song is Mirira and his biggest musical inspiration is Pastor Bonnie Deuschle.
After this week’s concert, the artiste is planning an end-of-year event.
You're being joined by an impressive lineup of gospel artistes. Can you introduce us to some of the performers, and what makes this concert special?
I will be joined by some of my favourite local gospel musicians and friends. These include Janet Manyowa, Takesure Zamar, Nyasha Mutonhori and Joyful Praise Choir. Inspired worship is special because it’s the culmination of a two-day conference. With the first day being set aside for masterclasses on choir dynamics, song writing and worship leading, band dynamics and technical expertise.

I usually write songs based on what I am going through. For example, when I wrote Munamato, I was in a season of answered prayers.
As a minister, how do you balance your music career with your ministry and what's the focus of your ministry?
I have been a member of Celebration Church for more than 20 years now and the Celebration Centre is like home for me. I chose the venue because it is secure, has enough parking and is family-friendly.
How do you see the concert impacting the church and the community and what's your hope for the event?
The vision for the Inspired Worship Concert is to raise the next generation of worshippers and equip those involved in worship in the church with wisdom and spiritually driven lifestyles. This is also a place for the Christian community to socialise, have fun, praise and worship.
What are your expectations for the concert and what do you hope attendees will take away from the event?
An encounter with Jesus. The goal is to keep growing and improving the quality of gospel music in Zimbabwe.
What's one thing that you hope fans will take away from your music?
That they realise that God always come through.
Any final message or words of encouragement for your fans and those attending the concert?
