THE Heroes' holiday has arrived and Harare is throwing everything at it. Over the next four days, expect revving engines, powder explosions, dancehall duels and stadium-sized singalongs. Here's where to be.
Friday, August 7
Kick-start the long weekend in Mabvuku, where Rocks Steak House hosts the Mabvuku Carnival at Chizhanje from evening until late. The line-up features Bling 4, Runna Rulez, Raymer and Don Family, supported by Young Fantan, DJ Danubie, DJ Smokey-TMB, Jnr B and MC Freshie. Advance tickets cost just US$3 (general) and US$10 (VIP), increasing to US$5 and US$15 at the gate.
Saturday, August 8
Car enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies are in for a treat as the 2nd Edition of the Simba Auto Festival takes over Belgravia Sports Club, from 10am till late.
The festival promises rev battles, sound competitions, stance showcases and classic car displays. Team Subaru enthusiasts can join the convoy departing Causeway Building at 11:30am.
Come evening, Freeman and Takura headline the live stage, joined by Sane Wav, Madeherbelieve and more. Tickets run US$10 general, US$30 VIP and US$3 for children, via SahwiGate, Truckline Distributors or Isafil Purp iPhones.
If booming bass is more your speed than roaring engines, head to the Harare Hippodrome from 6pm for The Hit Factory, a Zimdancehall-versus-Hip Hop showdown featuring surprise guest artistes. Entry is US$10, with tickets available at MedOrange Pharmacies.

Swap the night out for daylight at Borrowdale Racecourse, where the Grand Colour Run brings a 5km run, Zumba, quad bikes, fitness sessions and hourly colour blasts from 7am to 3:30pm.
