THE construction of Kunzvi Dam on the Nyagui River is now 60% complete with authorities claiming the project is on target to meet its completion deadline.
Currently, work is focused on excavating the spillway foundation and constructing homes for seven families being relocated to make way for the dam.
According to engineer Davison Madondo, the resident engineer from the Zimbabwe National Water Authority, both components are progressing well.
“We are focused on spillway excavations and the construction of homes for the affected households. The project is now 60% complete,” Madondo said.
Special adviser to the President, Joram Gumbo, on Wednesday toured the site alongside Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution secretary Tavabarira Kutamahufa and other government officials.
“This dam is of critical importance, not just for Goromonzi and Murehwa, but for the entire country,” Gumbo said.
“It will supply clean water to Harare, Epworth and surrounding suburbs, and support agriculture, fisheries and tourism.”
Kutamahufa echoed similar sentiments, stressing the project’s significance in fostering rural development and economic empowerment through water-based enterprises.
