Government invests in Hwange Colliery to drive economic growth

GOVERNMENT has invested in Hwange Colliery Company to drive economic growth for the nation through improving electricity supply in the country.

The remarks were made by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services minister Jenfan Muswere during a tour of the plant yesterday.

“Hwange Colliery plays a pivotal role in the growth of the nation as it has employed a large number of people and is responsible for our electricity supply for the whole nation,”he said.

Muswere said the government is determined to invest in Hwange Colliery as it has resources that can uplift the economy.

“Production within the mine has increased as the government has implemented measures that allow economic growth within the nation, hence improving the livelihood of citizens,” he added.

The minister officially commissioned some of equipment bought to use at the mine.

Among the equipment were two ambulances, two Scania buses and a haemodialysis machine for the clinic.

“The commissioning of this equipment proves that as a government, with Hwange management, we are

determined to uplift the mining sector of the nation as it plays a pivotal role in the mining sector,” he said.

“We strategically implemented the tour in Hwange district as it is a cornerstone district in Matabeleland North province for mining and provision of the nation’s electricity.”
