Robbers terrorise city residents

Provincial acting police spokesperson, assistant inspector Nomalanga Msebele

Residents of Barbourfields suburb in Bulawayo have complained about a surge in robbery and mugging cases, which they say are now even happening in broad daylight.

Barbourfields Residents Association chairperson, Amos Banda, said the robbers were so daring that they were hiding in bushes to pounce on people during the day.

"The perpetrators hide in the bushes and are always ready to strike at any moment," Banda said.

Ward 2 councillor, Adrian Moyo, appealed to police to increase day and night time patrols in the area.

Provincial acting police spokesperson, assistant inspector Nomalanga Msebele, said policing authorities have recorded an increase in robberies around the Mpilo Hospital area along the road near United College of Education and the railway flyover.

"Robbers are targeting people for their cell phones, cash, and laptops,” Msebele said.

“We urge members of the public to avoid moving alone, especially at night.”

Msebele said police were also conducting patrols and raiding areas known for housing individuals of no fixed abode.
