Three robbers broke into a house in Bulawayo and forcibly took away R80 000 from their victim after threatening to stab her.

Bulawayo police spokesperson assistant inspector Nomalanga Msebele said the incident occurred on April 29 in New Magwegwe.

“The complainant was in her bedroom when the three unknown accused persons entered the house through an unlocked kitchen door,” Msebele said.

“They proceeded to the bedroom and one of them hit the complainant with open hands several times on the face, threatening to stab her with a kitchen knife if she tried to resist.”

She said the robbers appeared to have been tipped that their victim, who had returned from South Africa, was in possession of R80 000.

“One of the robbers raised the complainant’s mattress and took a small bag containing cash amounting to R80 000, complainant’s national identity card and an OPPO A17 cellphone which was hidden underneath,” Msebele said.

“We would like to advise members of the public not to disclose their financial status to strangers or keep large sums of money in their houses but bank it to avoid such incidence.”

She appealed to members of the public to assist with information, which may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
