BULAWAYO Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Judith Ncube has called for economic innovation to promote entrepreneurial initiatives.

In her remarks which were presented by economics affairs and investment director in her office, Simon Sawunyama, during the City of Bulawayo Research and Innovation Seminar on Thursday, Ncube emphasised on the crucial role innovation plays in driving Zimbabwe’s industrial and economic transformation.

She said the government’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, with a focus on sustainable energy, waste management, water management and climate action was crucial.

“We need local innovators to develop affordable and scalable solutions to address our unique challenges,” Ncube said.

“Through collaboration and partnerships, we can create a conducive environment for innovation to thrive.”

Ncube said there should be focus areas such as sustainable energy, waste management, water management, climate action, creative economy, agriculture, and tourism as they are key to Zimbabwe’s resilience and prosperity.

The government has pledged to support innovation and entrepreneurship through initiatives like the Zimbabwe Innovation Fund and Industrial Parks.

“We are committed to fostering partnerships between government, academia and the private sector to drive innovation and economic growth,” she said.

Researchers and entrepreneurs were urged to develop home-grown solutions to local challenges and build sustainable and globally competitive businesses.
