Zapu tips party candidate to win Insiza North by-election

Other candidates include Delani Moyo of Zanu-PF, Mbongeni Moyo of the Zimbabwe National Revival Party and Leslie Dube, independent.

OPPOSITION Zapu is rallying behind its candidate Thabani Mlotshwa, saying he is the answer to the  socio-economic aspirations of the people of Insiza North constituency.

Four candidates are set to contest in the upcoming by-election in Insiza North scheduled for June 14.

The by-election is being held following the death of then MP Farai Taruvinga (Zanu PF).

Other candidates include Delani Moyo of Zanu-PF, Mbongeni Moyo of the Zimbabwe National Revival Party and Leslie Dube, independent.

In an interview, Zapu president Sibangilizwe Nkomo called on opposition parties to send Zanu PF packing from Insiza North and other constituencies whenever vacancies arise.

“Let the Insiza North by-election mark the return of Zapu in Parliament to rescue Zimbabwe from further decline.

“For us to unshackle ourselves from the misrule and policy bankruptcy of the ruling party, we call on the people of Insiza North to unanimously support and vote for our candidate — Thabani Mlotshwa — in the by-election.

“We also call upon opposition political parties focused on this by-election to support our candidate and hereby pledge our future support on a reciprocal basis,” Nkomo told Southern Eye.

He called for unity of purpose, adding that Zanu PF was a self-serving party that abused State apparatus to retain power.

“We must unite to send Zanu PF packing from Insiza North and other constituencies whenever vacancies arise, till the next general elections in 2028.

“As we prepare modalities to call for national democratic convergence, we invite our compatriots in opposition parties to unite for every by-election so that we introduce more opposition voices in Parliament to stop the nefarious ED2030 agenda.

“Only genuine representatives of the people can stop the shredding of our sacred national Constitution by corrupt individuals driven by greed and selfishness,’’ Nkomo said

He added: “The journey begins now with this by-election. No matter how much the ruling party abuses State machinery at its disposal, our united effort as opposition parties will triumph. Let us vote for genuine patriots. The power is in our hands.”
