BULAWAYO City councillors have called on the municipality to enhance communication channels, emphasising the need for regular updates and inclusive decision-making processes.
Speaking to Southern Eye, ward 17 councillor Sikhulekile Moyo said the call aimed to foster a more collaborative and transparent working relationship between councillors, the local authority and the community.
“The local authority should improve communication and inform us as councillors on ward developmental projects as we play a great role as we represent the voice of the residents hence, we know what our residents require,” she said.
Moyo said communication was key as it involved all stakeholders leading to provision of projects that were required in the community for the city’s development.
“We believe going forward the local authority will improve communication with all stakeholders as this is critical for the city’s development. It is clear that local authorities should update councillors on ward development projects since residents except answers,” she said.
Ward 2 councillor Adrian Moyo said effective communication served as the linchpin for informed policy-making, facilitating a symbiotic relationship between policy- makers and ward stakeholders.
“By fostering a culture of transparent dialogue, policy-makers can garner nuanced insights into unique challenges and opportunities at grassroots level. This in turn enables the development of targeted interventions and policies that are tailored to address the specific needs of the community, ultimately catalysing meaningful
development and progress,” he said.
