AS cold winds sweep through the city, a heart-warming initiative is proving that compassion is the best way to keep warm this winter.

The Doing Good Projects Trust, founded in 2016 by Thina Sithole and her husband, Brilliant, is living up to its name by leading a powerful winter donation drive to support a local orphanage housing 42 children.

Speaking to Southern Eye, Sithole said she was moved by the cold spell that hit the country recently this winter season, reaching out to the orphanage’s administrators, who confirmed an urgent need for warm clothing.

“In response, we decided to donate and the organisation swiftly mobilised support, receiving a generous donation from our UK-based partner Beatrice Mashonga. A full drum of jerseys and other essentials was couriered to Zimbabwe, a gesture that ignited even more action,” she said.

Sithole expressed gratitude to Mashonga for the donation, adding that the need was still greater than what they had shared.

We thank the community for joining us, since every child deserves to stay warm this winter. The initiative did not stop at jerseys. The trust launched a clothing and shoe collection drive, encouraging donations of all sizes and types and is currently partnering other organisations to amplify the impact,” she said.

“As The Doing Good Projects Trust, we had a special day at the orphanage, complete with a shared lunch, fun ball games and a chance to simply spend quality time with the children.

“We want them to feel seen, loved and celebrated. Joining the effort are students from Rehoboath College, who are also donating and will accompany the trust for the upcoming visit.

“This multi-generational show of unity is a beautiful reminder of the power of community, when people come together, real change happens.”

Trust chairperson Brilliant Sithole said 11 students from Gwanda State University participated in the activities.

“Their participation is a powerful symbol of youth stepping into service and leadership in matters of community care and social responsibility,” he said.
