Gwanda MP calls for improved network coverage

Marupi, who is also the Information deputy minister, said many parts of his constituency remained cut off from the outside world because of lack of boosters and transmitters.

Gwanda South legislator, Ompile Marupi, has called on telecommunications companies to embrace infrastructure sharing models to improve network connectivity in rural Matabeleland.

Marupi, who is also the Information deputy minister, said many parts of his constituency remained cut off from the outside world because of lack of boosters and transmitters.

“No one and no community should be left behind,” Marupi said.

“Engagements are ongoing with the Post and Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe, Econet, NetOne, Telecel and Transmedia on how they will share the erection and distribution of transmitters.”

A number of remote areas suffer poor network connectivity, with villagers in some areas being forced to seek higher altitude for purposes of achieving connectivity.

Affected villagers have, by default, turned to telecommunication networks of other countries for desired services.
