Gweru, Altcom partner in waste management

Altcom director Tafadzwa Moyo said his organisation believed success was not only measured by a business's growth but also the impact it had on the community around it.

THE Gweru City Council has engaged Bulawayo-based construction equipment company, Altcom, to enhance waste management in the city, with the private company donating bins at an event held recently.

Altcom handed over more than 50 bins for the programme.

In her acceptance speech, deputy mayor Nyaradzo Madzikura said the donation came at a time when the Midlands capital required more bins to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.

“Proper waste management is crucial for maintaining public health, preserving our environment and fostering a sense of community pride,” she said.

“Altcom's donation is a shining example of corporate social responsibility in action. It shows that businesses can play a vital role in supporting local initiatives and contributing to the well-being of the communities they serve.”

Altcom director Tafadzwa Moyo said his organisation believed success was not only measured by a business's growth but also the impact it had on the community around it.

“Having established a shop and factory right here in Gweru, we are proud to extend our commitment beyond business and contribute meaningfully to the city's well-being,” he said.

“At Altcom, we do not simply produce world-class roofing sheets, door frames, fencing products and our new baby steel, we build stronger, more vibrant cities through both our products and corporate citizenship.

“This donation serves as more than just a gesture, it is a call for all businesses and individuals to come together and take ownership of their environment.”

The Midlands capital, like most urban local authorities across the country, is facing challenges in collecting refuse owing to inadequate equipment and fuel, among others. The situation has left residents exposed to airborne and waterborne diseases.
