A Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) member was hauled before the Plumtree magistrates’ court after assaulting his wife for leaving him behind while she went to a bar.
Arnold Nyoni (39) pleaded guilty to charges of assault and malicious damage to property before magistrate Joshua Nembaware.
The magistrate fined Nyoni US$350 for assault, with an alternative two-month jail term, and an additional US$150 for property damage.
Prosecutor Sheilla Nyathi said on June 27, Nyoni confronted his wife, Shawukwele Dube (44), at a bar, accusing her of going out without him.
Upon returning home, Nyoni slapped her twice and destroyed a decoder during the altercation.
Police were notified, leading to the soldier’s arrest.
