Soldier assaults wife for going to bar alone

A Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) member was hauled before the Plumtree magistrates’ court after assaulting his wife for leaving him behind while she went to a bar. 

A Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) member was hauled before the Plumtree magistrates’ court after assaulting his wife for leaving him behind while she went to a bar. 

Arnold Nyoni (39) pleaded guilty to charges of assault and malicious damage to property before magistrate Joshua Nembaware. 

The magistrate fined Nyoni US$350 for assault, with an alternative two-month jail term, and an additional US$150 for property damage. 

Prosecutor Sheilla Nyathi said on June 27, Nyoni confronted his wife, Shawukwele Dube (44), at a bar, accusing her of going out without him. 

Upon returning home, Nyoni slapped her twice and destroyed a decoder during the altercation. 

Police were notified, leading to the soldier’s arrest.
