POLICE in Nyamandlovu have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the murder of a Kensington man, following an altercation during a beer binge.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele said Peace Nyathi of Binis, Nyamandlovu, was arrested in connection with the death of Junior Moyo (34) of Kensington, Bulawayo.

 The incident occurred on the evening of August 10 at Kensington Bar.

“On the night in question, the now deceased was drinking beer with the accused and his accomplice, only known as Bheki, who is still at large. An altercation broke out and one of them struck Moyo with an unknown object on the forehead,” Msebele said.

She said Moyo sustained a cut and went home after the altercation, The following day, he reported the assault to the police before he was referred to United Bulawayo Hospitals for treatment.

He was later referred to Mpilo Central Hospital, but reportedly chose not to go.

“His health deteriorated two days later, prompting relatives to rush him to Mpilo, where he died upon admission on August 12. Police arrested Nyathi the following day during a raid at his workplace,” Msebele said.

“We urge members of the public to solve disputes amicably and avoid violence, particularly under the influence of alcohol.”

Investigations are ongoing, and police are appealing for information leading to the arrest of the second suspect, Bheki.
