Drug peddler jailed six months

A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to six months in prison for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

The convict, Nigel Sibanda, appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware where he pleaded guilty to the charges,

Prosecutor Sheila Nyathi told the court that Sibanda is an artisanal miner at Arthur mine in Matobo

“On September 2 and at around 10am,  police officers who were on patrol in the Matobo area intercepted Sibanda  at Arthur mine and conducted a search on him,’’ Nyathi told the court.

During the search, police officers recovered one sachet of dagga from Sibanda and arrested him.

The dagga weighed 10 grams.

The government has since declared war on drugs and illegal substance abuse, while President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called for stiffer penalties against those behind the scourge.
