A 24-YEAR-OLD man from Gwanda has been sentenced to community service term after being found guilty of stabbing a neighbour’s cow.
Nduduzo Nare (24) appeared before Gwanda magistrate Progress Murandu charged with malicious damage to property.
The magistrate said the offence was grave as it not only caused financial loss to Bekithemba Sibanda (56), but also amounted to cruelty to an innocent animal.
Nare was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment.
Twelve months were conditionally suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
A portion of the sentence was suspended on condition that he restitutes Sibanda US$700 by October 10.
The remaining months were converted to 630 hours of community service.
The court was told that on March 13, 2025, at Dennis Farm in Gwanda, Nare stabbed a brown heifer belonging to Sibanda twice on both sides of the stomach with an unknown sharp object.
