Two men from Bulawayo have been jailed four months for assaulting a workmate for reporting for duty drunk.
Moreblessing Moyo (25) and Makhosi Tshuma (21) appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba facing charges of assault.
They pleaded guilty to the charge.
The court was left in stitches when the prosecutor asked them why they had beaten Behluli Ngwenya (33).
“He was drunk and was misbehaving, that is why we beat him,” the two said in response.
The magistrate said the convicts had assaulted Ngwenga without lawful cause, and slapped them with a four month jail sentence.
The court heard that on August 3, at around 8 pm, the duo assaulted their workmate Ngwenya at Pasipasi Mine in Norwood, Umguza.
Moyo struck Ngwenya once on the head with a stick, while Tshuma hit him twice on the ribs using the same weapon.
