
A 34 year old man from Gwanda lost control of a vehicle he was driving and hit two pedestrians, killing them on the spot.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson, inspector Chiratidzo Dube, confirmed the tragic incident which occurred along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge road.
“Caetano Ncube (43) from Gwanda, was driving a white Toyota Hilux with no passengers on board and when reaching the 101 km peg, he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road to the left, and struck two pedestrians before hitting a tree and the vehicle landed on its right side,” Dube said.
She identified the deceased as Talent Ndlovu (24) and Methembekile Zitha (17).
Dube said th two women died after sustaining head injuries and their bodies were taken to Gwanda Provincial Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examinations.
“The driver, Ncube, sustained a painful right shoulder injury and was admitted to Gwanda Provincial Hospital,” she said.
Dube urged motorists and pedestrians to exercise caution on highways, especially in areas prone to accidents, noting that excessive speed and loss of control can have devastating consequences.
