BULAWAYO City Council has revealed that it is in the process of establishing a dashboard to improve its service delivery system following challenges experienced in reporting faults at the council.

This was revealed during the previous full council meeting in which councillor Adrian Moyo raised concern over communication challenges that have resulted in lack of feedback within the local authority.

“The current system did not report back the progress and the challenges faced in attending to service delivery faults,” Moyo said as he proposed that a computer dashboard be established.

“The computer dashboard would indicate the report received, its progress and any challenges if experienced.

“The dashboard would allow councillors to monitor feedback.”

Councillor Tinevimbo Maposa referred to a previously made proposal to decentralise works.

“More teams should be established to deal with sewer challenges,” Maposa said.

“A report was made by a blind resident who had sewer overflowing into the house.

“The sewer had not been attended to. Water and Sanitation Department should be allocated more service delivery vehicles.”

Councillor Thandiwe Moyo also concurred and said once plumbing teams arrive in an area, they should attend to all sewer overflows, including even those that would not have been reported.

Councillor Suzan Sithole highlighted that there are transport challenges that had been raised by plumbers amid reports that the sewer bursts have increased in the city.

Councillor Felix Madzana noted the good work done by the Works Department in road construction.

“Most private developers had failed to deliver roads,” he said.

“This also extended to sewer challenges which were a result of poor workmanship.

“Land development works done by private developers should be thoroughly checked before the area is commissioned.”

Councillor Mxolisi Mahlangu applauded the Works Department for the good work which was being done at Emhlangeni Phase 2.

He said private developers should be effectively supervised when carrying out projects.

Councillor Royini Sekete explained that if council had enough resources, better roads would be delivered.

“Council had serious revenue challenges and tools of trade. This was cross cutting in all departments,” the city father said.

Councillor Mellisa Mabeza complained about stones and bricks that are being left on the roads after broken down vehicles have been repaired.

“These materials are not removed from the road, resulting in them contributing to roads accidents,” Sekete chipped in.

Mayor Coltart noted that it was an offence to place leave bricks and stones on the roads.

He also warned residents who placed obstacles along road verges in residential areas, saying this was very common in high-density areas.
