Three men have been remanded in custody following their arrest for the vandalism and theft of ZETDC copper cables valued at over US$12 300.

The arrests occurred on September 18 after a joint operation involving Loss Control and CID teams.

The breakthrough came when officers, acting on a tip-off, intercepted Leo Madziwa (43) as he was allegedly loading a sack of skinned armored cables into his silver VW Golf at Nkulumane Complex.

Upon interrogation, Madziwa reportedly implicated his accomplices, Believe Muteiwa (25) and Kenneth Tatira (31).

The team was led to a property in Kelvin North, where additional burnt underground cables were recovered.

The cables were positively identified as belonging to the ZETDC Monarch Substation, which was vandalised earlier in the week.

The total weight of the recovered copper is 615kg. Muteiwa and Tatira are identified as agents of Ricozone Pvt Limited, whose owner, Hardlife Zimwenje, is currently wanted for other related cases.

The trio appeared in court on September 19 and were remanded in custody pending further invetsigations.
