A 30-YEAR-OLD Zambian national has been convicted at the Hwange Magistrates Court for illegally entering Zimbabwe and engaging in illicit fishing activities in the Zambezi River.
The court heard that on September 16, rangers from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority on river patrol in Bimbi, Hwange, apprehended Fine Mumbala as he was poaching fish.
Investigations revealed that he crossed into the country using a canoe.
Mumbala was found fishing without a permit, using illegal twine nets, violating the Parks and Wildlife Act [Chapter 20:14].
Mumbala was found in possession of 3,5kg of fish, valued at US$17,50 (ZiG525).
