A Beitbridge woman has been sentenced to three years in effective imprisonment after being caught trafficking nearly 10 kilogrammes of dagga hidden in bags of potatoes.
Leanah Chaka(30) was convicted on drug trafficking charges at the Beitbridge Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that on September 18, 2025, Chaka boarded a mshika-shika carrying seven bags of potatoes.
The vehicle was intercepted at the Bubi roadblock, where police discovered 17 cobs of dagga, weighing 9.3kg, concealed within the potato bags.
The drugs have an estimated street value of US$930.
Chaka was sentenced to four years in prison, with one year suspended on condition of good behaviour, resulting in an effective three-year jail term.
