The rehabilitation of the Ward 22 bridge in Bethel, Shurugwi North, has brought a wave of relief to local communities, marking a significant step toward improved infrastructure and community development.
The Mutosi Bridge, which had become increasingly unsafe and difficult to use over the years, has been fully rehabilitated through Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocations under the local MP Joseph Mpasi.
The completion of the project is expected to have far-reaching benefits for school learners, the elderly, and the broader community.
The restored bridge ensures safe and reliable access, particularly ahead of the rainy season when crossing points often become treacherous.
“The bridge had become a serious challenge, especially for schoolchildren and the elderly during the rainy season. We are grateful for this development which will make travel safer and easier,” said one local resident.
Surrounding catchment areas set to benefit include Zingwe, Bravo, Gwenhoro Zhaugwe, and Smith. Resettled villagers within Bethel will now have a shorter and safer route to Gweru, bypassing the busy Gweru–Shurugwi highway.
The bridge’s restoration is expected to improve daily commutes, boost school attendance, and facilitate the movement of goods and services, thereby strengthening both the social and economic fabric of the area.
Mpasi said the project was part of ongoing efforts to ensure that CDF resources are used transparently and effectively for the benefit of communities.

“Infrastructure development remains a key priority. This bridge will not only serve as a transport link but also as a lifeline for commerce and education in Ward 22,” Mpasi said.
