Estate agent group revives hope for Bulawayo reindustrialisation

Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Judith Ncube said the decision to establish a new office in the city was a powerful statement and showed confidence in Bulawayo’s property sector.

A NEW international estate agent group, Chas Everitt International Property Group, has been launched in Bulawayo, reviving hope of the city’s rendustrialisation.

Addressing delegates during the launch recently, Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Judith Ncube said the decision to establish a new office in the city was a powerful statement and showed confidence in Bulawayo’s property sector.

“The property sector is a critical barometer of the economic and social health of a nation. It is intertwined with construction, banking, and finance, and the fundamental human need for security and shelter,” she said.

“When the property market thrives, it signals investor confidence, creates employment and stimulates a multitude of downstream industries. This is why your presence here today is so much more than a business launch; it is a narrative-changing event.”

Ncube said the decision aligned with the vision to reclaim the city’s status of being the industrial and commercial hub of the country.

“The success we envision for Bulawayo is a vital piece of our country’s greatest ambition: to become a prosperous, upper-middle-income economy by 2030. The growth we see here in Bulawayo is essential to writing that

successful story for our entire nation,” she said.

Ncube said a robust, transparent and professional property sector was fundamental to this vision, adding that it provided the foundation for industrial revitalisation.

“By facilitating home ownership, enabling commercial investment, and professionalising the real estate landscape, Chas Everitt is not just selling properties; it is helping to build the Zimbabwe we all envision,” she said.

Ncube challenged Chas Everitt and the entire private sector in Bulawayo to see themselves as partners in the country’s transformative journey.

Partner with us in our urban renewal projects. Partner with us in providing decent housing for our people,” she said.

“Partner with us by continuing to invest, to innovate and to uphold the highest standards of corporate governance.

“Let this new office be a beacon, attracting further investment and signalling to other national and international players that Bulawayo is not just open, but it is the place to be.”

Chas Everitt International Property Group has been in business for the past 45 years.

It was founded by the late Charles Everitt and his wife, Tilla.

It began with four local offices in Johannesburg and has grown to 120 outlets, connecting to 72 countries, 550 companies, 4 800 offices, and nearly 135 000 estate agents.

Chas Everitt International Property Group Zimbabwe chief operations officer Barry Davies, said the group stood among Africa’s leading real estate companies, firmly in South Africa’s top five, and actively expanding its footprint into new markets across the continent.

“That demand, particularly from the diaspora community, which represents nearly half of our inquiries, is not limited to one city. It is a national phenomenon, and so, expanding into Zimbabwe’s key industrial and cultural hub,

Bulawayo, is not merely an opportunity; it is a strategic necessity,” he said.

Davies said their analysis pointed directly to potential, adding that they saw a steady 12% growth in areas like Khumalo, a consistent 10-15% value appreciation in suburbs like Burnside and the median home prices offering significant returns.
