IT was all smiles for the Jairos Jiri community in Pumula on Saturday as the Tree of Life Church donated Christmas hampers to vulnerable members of the society in Bulawayo.
The organisation donated 20 food hampers to vulnerable members of the community as three families one each from Pumula, Nketa and Mnganwini suburbs were given food hampers while the rest was donated to Jairos Jiri hostel.
Tree of Life founder Strevis Mhlanga said the organisation aimed at assisting the vulnerable and underprivileged members of community to have a better living standard.
“We held an early Christmas party for the children at Jairos Jiri as a way to show them that they are important within the community.
“Handing out food hampers was a way of showing love and we hope it will help to supplement their diet so that they attain a better living standard,” he said.
Mhlanga said it was the role of the community to show people with disabilities that they were important and empower them to be independent so that they could have a bright future.
“It is painful that in some family setups whenever they have a disabled individual they tend to treat them as less human which makes their lives very hard as they are not given equal opportunities with able-bodied individuals which limits their growth in life. We challenge members of the community to treat the disabled like human beings,” he said.
Jairos Jiri Pumula hostel manager Anna Mwale applauded Tree of Life, saying it has consistently supported the association throughout the year.
