A 45-YEAR-OLD man from Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North province, allegedly sexually assaulted his minor stepdaughter on two occasions.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor, appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Taurai Manuwere facing two counts of rape.
He was remanded in custody to Monday for continuation of trial.
The court was told that the abuse allegedly occurred between December 2024 and July this year.
The court heard that the 12-year-old was sleeping in a bedroom she shared with her siblings where the stepfather sneaked into her blankets during the night.
It is alleged that he fondled the minor and threatened to assault her if she screamed.
He would then allegedly order her to undress before raping her.
On one of the occasions, the victim’s cries for help reportedly alerted her mother, who intervened.
