IN a significant stride towards providing quality education, the St Columba’s High School development committee (SDC) has made notable advancements in strengthening the institution’s ICT capacity.
Speaking during the school’s speech and prize-giving day in Bulawayo last Friday, SDC chairperson Sylvester Machingura shared the developments made over the past year, highlighting the committee’s commitment to creating a full-digital learning environment.
“The SDC has placed particular emphasis on strengthening the school’s ICT capacity, recognising that modern education is deeply connected to technology,” he said.
“We have invested in a new network infrastructure that now provides reliable and seamless connectivity throughout the school, a significant milestone in our journey towards creating a full-digital learning environment.”
Machingura said SDC continued to upgrade teachers’ laptops, empowering educators to enhance the learning experience of pupils.
He said the committee set a target of acquiring 50 interactive boards and has already secured 18, an achievement that gives it confidence in reaching its target.
“We are confident that the school will be in a position to introduce a bring-your-own-device programme, allowing learners to bring laptops or tablets to access digital learning materials and online resources,” he said.
Machingura said the school was utilising the Akello Library platform and exploring additional avenues to develop an effective e-library.

“We aim to ensure that every learner has ready access to educational resources which support research, critical thinking and independent learning.
“Instead of viewing these developments with hesitation, we embrace them with optimism.”
The principal, Canon Ncube, said the school’s pass rate continued to improve compared to previous years.
“Learning has remained at the heart of our mission. We have emphasised interactive teaching methods, the use of technology and learner-centred approaches. Our students sat for internal and external examinations, that is, for Zimsec, Hexco and Cambridge,” Ncube said.
“The pass rate has improved compared to previous years, reflecting both the diligence of our learners and the guidance of their teachers.”
