Bulawayo’s parking system company, Tendy Tree Investments (TTI), has distributed food hampers to thousands of vulnerable residents across the city.
Speaking during the handover at Mpopoma Housing Office last week, TTI managing director Lizwe Mabuza said the initiative began five years ago as a way of bringing smiles to those in need.
“We do this in partnership with the Bulawayo City Council, where we hand over the food material to council and they do the selection process,” he said. “The council said that since it was handling the mayor’s cheer fund, it would also prefer the handover to be done at the same time.
Mabuza thanked motorists, adding that the donations were made possible by their contributions through parking fees.
Speaking on behalf of the mayor, the deputy mayor, Edwin Ndlovu, paid tribute to TTI and said the housing department did the vetting exercise and inform council about the names of those who qualify for donations.
“The beneficiaries have been identified across the whole city. We would like to thank the company for bringing order to the streets. We want to thank TTI for giving back to the community. It is the first company that employs 100% locals,” he said.
